recipe // full moon martini

Enjoy this cocktail as a nightcap while stargazing with loved ones this full moon! Get the full recipe for the Full Moon Martini on

While I was on my road trip, I woke up in the middle of the night because the moon had totally illuminated my sleeping spot — turns out it was a ginormous full moon, hanging low in the night sky. Totally breathtaking. It was just an impactful, yet simple moment. When I returned, I was so moved by this memory that I asked our recipe contributor Claire McAleese to whip up a martini inspired by tonight’s full moon.

my exhaustive list of vintage rugs on Etsy

While working on my living room makeover, I've found hundreds of gorgeous vintage rug resources — check out my exhaustive list of my favorite @Etsy shops on + be sure to bookmark this post for your own interior design project!

I have a confession to make: I am terrible when it comes to picking a rug. I get totally overwhelmed by all of the options… by the colors, the patterns, the dimensions… the price! I can never make up my mind. For example, before I selected this rug for my old loft, I bought and returned 4 different rugs. This happens pretty much every time I need to cover my floor. It can get quite stressful. Thankfully, interior designer Jessica McCarthy from Decorist has been helping me navigate the vintage rug waters for my living room makeover. I swear, we have looked at approximately 1,000,000 rugs and most of them are on Etsy. I figured that I could put all this endless clicking and scrolling to good use and share some of my favorite vintage rug Etsy shops with you guys to help make your shopping easier!

The Business of Being Creative // the basics of sponsored content

The Business of Being Creative // On the blog this week, I'm sharing specific examples of past sponsored posts I've done here on my blog and on social media so that you can see how to handle sponsored content! Read more on

Before we dig into this post, I wanted to thank you all so much for the amazing feedback and comments on the first post in this new series, The Business of Being Creative. It feels awesome to know you guys are happy about this new content!

I wrestled with where to go from here and which topic to discuss first, but ultimately decided to start with the basics and build from there. A large part of what I do on a day-to-day basis is curate sponsored content in partnership with brands. Lately, though, I’ve noticed there seems to be a bit of backlash about bloggers posting lots of sponsored content and confusion over what counts and what doesn’t. Like why don’t the Kardashians disclose their sponsored Instagram photos? Totally not ok.

Today I’m going to give you specific examples of past sponsored posts I’ve done here on the blog and on social media so that you can see how we handle sponsored content around here.

for your friday

sharing some of my favorite independent makers and artists for your weekend inspiration! get all of the sources on

Cue the trumpeting horns emoji… it is FRIDAY. I started off the week in San Francisco, visiting some good friends, and then ended the week working on my living room makeover. So basically lots of paint stripping, sanding, and priming. I am so excited to finally tackle an interior room in my home!

I hope you guys have a great weekend — here are a few finds that are inspiring me lately:

  1. I’m a firm believer in only using fabric napkins in my home, so I’m loving the colors of these Irish linen napkins from 31 Chapel Lane. That olive green color is positively drool-worthy.
  2. Oh, WKNDLA… how do I love you, let me count the ways… I already have the giant tassels in my home, but now I need a wall hanging!
  3. Tassels and pom poms are certainly having quite the moment these days, but I have a suspicion that bells are soon to be a big deal, too! Loving this etched ceramic bell from Leif.
  4. I’m eternally in the mood for neutrals, so this artwork by Trine Struwe is beyond perfection.
  5. Lastly, let’s shop local! Basalt is a Seattle-based brand of insanely gorgeous and sumptuously fragranced candles. I’d definitely burn this sweet tobacco candle in my bedroom.

Hope you guys have a great weekend! Be sure to follow me on Instagram and Snapchat to see what I’m up to.

essentials for the first-time homeowner + what I’ve learned after 6 months

Today on the blog I'm sharing my essentials for the first-time homeowner + what I've learned after 6 months — head to to read more! #AmexAmbassador @americanexpress #bluecasheveryday

It’s been a while since I last gave you guys an update about what I’ve learned as a first time homeowner and, WOW, so much has happened. I thought it was about time to share what I’ve learned. Also, I’m excited to announce that I’m now working with American Express and their Blue Cash Everyday Card, which I personally use and helps make my everyday more epic. These days I’m all about entertaining friends and family in my new home, so getting 3% cash back on U.S. grocery store purchases (for example) when I use my card is majorly beneficial.

Today I’m sharing my list of essentials that I think every first-time homeowner needs, plus ways to reward yourself for all of that hard work, too!

recipe // Gin & Tonic with citrus ice

Celebrate the last days of summer with this super simple recipe for Gin & Tonics with citrus ice! Get the full recipe for this classic cocktail on

This Gin & Tonic recipe comes with a bit of a backstory. While shopping on Amazon for novelty molds for our fancy margarita jello shots, I sort of fell down the black hole of novelty ice cube molds, too. Literally, I scrolled through hundreds of options and basically tried to buy them all. Gwen intervened and told me to reign it in! But before that, I found these super cute citrus sippers which allow you to mold your ice around a straw. Pretty genius, huh? With the help of resident recipe expert Claire McAleese, we whipped up a batch of Gin & Tonics with a few special additions.
